Buddy Guy celebrated his 89th birthday on July 30 by releasing his 20th studio album, Ain’t Done With the Blues, which debuted at No. 1 on this week’s Billboard Blues Albums chart. This marks Guy’s eighth chart-topping album of his legendary career, while extending his Billboard chart history to over 63 years, dating back to the debut of “Stone Crazy” on the Hot R&B Sides chart in February 1962. The album features guest appearances by Joe Bonamassa, Peter Frampton, the Blind Boys of Alabama, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, and Joe Walsh, and earned 3,000 equivalent album units in its first week. This chart-topping release follows Guy’s recent cameo in the acclaimed blues-centered film, Sinners. “When something like this comes along, I do it to help the blues,” Guy said of his involvement in the movie. “I’m 100% trying to support it so the next generation of white or Black kids can hear it and know more about the blues. Anything we can do to help the blues stay alive, I’m for it.” (Billboard)
